What inspired you to become a designer?
I was always drawing as a kid, but I did not set out to get into fashion. My first job was at HBO designing TV guide ads. Ultimately I came out to Los Angeles and started working on movie advertising.
My inspiration to be a better designer came from my husband who is truly an artist!

What gets you out of bed to do what you love?
Working for myself and doing something creative that is personally fulfilling.

What’s your favorite thing about your business that you like to do?
Having grown up in New York City's spanish harlem, one of the aspects of my business that is most fulfilling is giving back. KC Tees donates 10% of every purchase to Para Los Ninos - a non-profit family service organization designed to bring children from some of LA's most challenging communities out of poverty and onto brighter more successful futures. I also partner with various non profit organizations and causes that are important to me.

What bumps in the road did you overcome to be where you are at now?
I had some major losses this past year, my job and a family member. I had been in entertainment advertising most of my career and when they closed down the division of Fox that I worked for, I felt that I was at a crossroad in my life. The tees had always been a labor of love and I decided to put some real time and energy into something that was meaningful to me.

Words of advice for any Latina to follow her dream.
Never give up on your dreams! Face your fears, listen to your instincts, and don't listen to negative people.
Whether you're starting out or starting over there is no time like now. Its never too late to follow your passions!
Where did you go to learn, your trade?
I  was fortunate to get accepted into an Art High School in NYC and then studied graphic design at the School of Visual Arts.

Words of wisdom….
Don't let your dreams pass you by. They're too important to never see the light of day. Years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you wanted to do and didn't, rather than the things you did.
This is your life and you should do what's most meaningful to you.
