Soy Fashionista was invited to give a speech to Webster Middle School’s “Big Picture Academy”.  There are only 4-5 Big Picture Academies in the USA. They are teaching kids differently;one of their methods is to bring in speakers with interesting jobs and have them give their story of how they made it happen, including thinking outside the box, and it being ok to DREAM BIG. Soy Fashionista gave the kids that chance to blog about 3 different subjects, and 5 winners were chosen to be published on Soy’s “Be a Hero” tab. It turned out that we couldn’t only pick 5...their blogs were so AWESOME, that I had to pick 9 instead! Below you’ll find all the winning pieces of work. Please take the time to read them…thanks!

My passion is art, skateboarding and graffiti.  I like those things because it's a form of expression and it is also a form of therapy.  I'd rather choose these things from drugs.  I would love to have a gallery all to myself.

Well, to start my name is Jesus.  Yea, I know what you're thinking, that religious founder: Jesus as in heard like 'jeesus'.  No. I am a person who is proud to be Latino.  I'm 100% Mexican born in Guadalajara, Jalisco.  So that was my intro.  My parents always encouraged me to be someone to protect the rights of Latinos.  I come from a humble family who struggle to survive and at least give us bread and milk.  I also have a crippled sister with autism.  So I want to be a lawyer.  If you want to find out more of my life story look at my journal in Alma's class in B7.

When I grow up I want to be a singer and dancer.  I sing and dance all the time.  Whenever I am feeling in a bad mood I sing, dance or do both and feel better.  If or when I become a singer and dancer and do food for the world.  Depending on how much money I would buy a land for animals and go save as many as I can.  For poor or homeless people I would give them money and a home.

Hm.  What is my passion?  Well, my passion is Fashion.  I simply love clothes.  I think it's a really cool way to express myself.  One thing about fashion that really concerns me is the fact that a lot of people don't use recycled material.  I would really love to change that.  It's something I'm working on.  I believe that everyone has fashion in their life and for those who think they don't, well then you're silly.  Everyone wears clothes, so everyone has some part in fashion.  Another thing I believe is that I will become a famous fashion designer or stylist.  That's something that I"m going to make happen. :)

My passion has always been to work with orca whales, also known as killer whales.  Ever since I saw Free Willy movie I fell in love with orcas.  When I was little I always just thought that would be my dream and I didn't think I would actually be able to work with them, but as I grow older I found out that there are chances that I could actually work and protect these whales.  These whales usually live in the northwest pacific ocean.  I would love to move there and work to protect them and just work with them.  I would love to have a job like this and I will fulfill my dream.  That is my passion.
