As I sit here eating my delicious mango chunks, I look at the package and see "Product of Ecuador".  Well that gave me my idea for my country of the week.   So far, all I know is that Mangos are grown there and that it sits somewhere in the middle of the world; better yet, it sits on the equator.  Hmm, there must be more to it than that.

As I do my research I see right away that it is a very small country, actually the second-smallest country in South America.  Here is a list of the top five places to visit in Ecuador that I found on www.lonelyplanet.com/ecuador:

Quito’s Old Town - One of South America’s most spectacular and best preserved colonial centers

Quilotoa Loop - One of the most spectacular road trips in all the Andes

Volcán Chimborazo - The highest mountain in the western hemisphere and the earth’s closest point to the sun (so I am assuming it's really hot there)

Cuenca - One of Latin America’s prettiest colonial cities and an Unesco World Heritage Site

Vilcabamba- A mellow village in the famed Valley of Longevity with cheap massages (oh, that's it! I'm going! Cheap massages, wow!) and great hiking

Wow, I think the best part of all is the prices.  Seems like I will be easy to figure out what things cost as the national currency is the US dollar.  If you are on a budget,  you can get by with $15 a day.  For $30 a day, you can have a great vacation and if you want to go all out, then going up to $50 to $70 a day, will do the trick.  Can you imagine that?! $50 barely gets you a good dinner here in the US, but you can eat and sleep in style on that amount.  Wow, I'm telling you, I know where I'm going on my next trip.

Ecuador is considered the most "mega-diverse" country in the world, which means it has the most diverse selection of animals and plants in the planet.  The main language there is spanish, so we should have no problem asking for the location of the banos.  Well, isn't that the first thing people learn, besides the "bad" words.  They enjoy a climate similar to the climate you'll find in the State of Colorado, here in the US.

Well, here is the country for this week.  Hmm, I wonder what I will eat next week and where that will take me....
