Costa Rica

Oh!  I already saw something I really like about Costa Rica…over 50 beaches.  Such a small country, (it’s slightly smaller than West Virginia), but yet they have all those beautiful beaches.  It has two different coastlines: the Caribbean and the North Pacific.  The coasts are separated by rugged mountains, which include over 100 volcanoes.

Costa Ricans are called “Ticos”.  I didn’t know why this was until I remember hearing some of my Costa Rican friends say “chiquitico”.  This is an affectionate term they call themselves, which is derived from their linguistic tendency to add “tico” to the end of most words.  Most Ticos are mestizos, a mixture of European and indigenous peoples.  That is why you will find that many Ticos have blond hair and blue or green eyes.

I have found that most Latin American countries are fond of music and Costa Rica is no exception.  It is very typical for the discos and dance halls to be full.  Even though most Ticos are conservative, they tend to let loose and flirt wildly on the dance floor.

I found this bit of information to be a little…well, funny. It seems that men in Costa Rica are quite machista and they will send piropos towards young ladies walking along the street without the company of another man.  Piropos are Spanish language come-ons. You will hear "mi amor", "que belleza", or "rica, mami".  No harm or even disrespect is meant by these words. Take them as a compliment! But, in these cases, act like a Tica and ignore the piropos. Hmm, that brings back memories…ha ha ha ha!

Costa Rica has eight different tourism regions.   You will find that as you drive along, the scenery will dramatically change from hour to hour.  In other words, you will be pleasantly surprised to find that traveling between cities is an experience in itself.  It will take you from mountain passes to white-sand beaches to lush rainforests to dry tropical grasslands to whitewater rapids and active volcanoes.

Enjoy Costa Rica and remember to tell them that the SOYFASHIONISTA girls sent you!

Hooray for my beautiful country! I'm Cuban-Costa Rican and I LOVE it. I've been going to Costa Rica since I was 5 and it's always amazing. :)
