I recently took a trip to North Carolina to visit some relatives during the summer. The purpose of this trip was to attend my cousin’s Quinceanera and to do a little sight seeing. We stayed in a small city called Belmont, not too far from Charlotte, one of the larger cities in North Carolina. With time to kill, (and a car full of cousins) we were ready to see what N.C. had to offer. I’ve compiled a list of the Top 5 things you should check out in North Carolina; especially if you’re anywhere near downtown Belmont, which I immediately fell in love with.

1. Eat Breakfast at the Waffle House. These waffles will melt in your mouth, plus biscuits!

2. Shop at the Piccolo Antique Store in downtown Belmont. This place looks small, but there’s a second floor below; I literally spent 3 hours in this store! By far, the best antique store I’ve ever seen with beautiful booths and displays.

4. Visit Carowinds Theme Park: thrill rides, family rides, and a water park. You can’t go wrong!

5. Have a grilled cheese and ice cream at Cherubs Café in downtown Belmont. This place has the best ranch I’ve ever tried. I wanted to bottle it up and take it back to California with me. Plus, this café works with the Holy Angels Nonprofit Foundation ,which provides employment options for individuals with mental retardation.

6. Visit the U.S. National Whitewater Center. This outdoor adventure park has everything from whitewater rafting, kayaking, hiking and bike trails, and a wall climbing center.
