Frank Marino’s Divas’ Extravaganza

As my nearest and dearest know, I love drag queens. My fascination, (I feel), stems from my love of fly make-up, enormous hair (the bigger the hair, the closer to Jesus, honey!) and anything sparkly. Therefore, when I found out we were going to be able to attend the famous “Frank’s Divas” show in Las Vegas during our Latina Lifestyles Blogger Conference weekend, I could barely contain myself. Whenever I felt tired or worn out, all I had to think was: “drag queens” and the world was whole again.
The night it was time for the show, my LLBG roomie Cynthia and I rushed back to the hotel room to put in some to werk (when it’s that serious, you have to spell it like that). We busted out the hot rollers, curling irons, an industrial-size can of Elnett and every pair of false eyelashes we could find. As we finally emerged from our cocoon of glitter, red lipstick and fifty pounds of eyeliner, we felt suitable enough to attend the show…and what a show it was!
The night started off with Frank Marino (the founder of “Frank’s Divas”) walking out in an outfit so sparkly, I wanted to steal it for my very own. Little did I know that Frank was going to change outfits at least a dozen times throughout the show, making me squeal throughout the whole ordeal. Frank has been doing the entertainment thing for 26 years now and has managed to keep current with all the diva entertainers. This time around, we saw show-stopping performances by: “Mariah Carey”, “Liza Minnelli”, “Beyonce”, “Janet Jackson”, “Lady Gaga” and “Rihanna”, just to name a few. We were all on the edge of our seats during the hour-long show, anticipating every move, every song, every sequin!
I think one of my favorite parts of the whole experience was Cynthia. She looked like a little kid attending the circus for the first time and, at one point, had to use her inhaler. Twice. Now that’s the measure of a good show! I know exactly how she felt, too, because my heart was pumping out of my chest the whole time. I thought I was the only one overreacting, until I started looking around and saw quite a few people clutching their hearts, including a sweet couple from Nebraska that was practically crying throughout. I guess they noticed our group, as well, because they came right over as soon as the show was done to talk about it with us! See? Drag Queens make the world a better place!
After the elaborate production, we actually got to meet the famous Frank Marino and I was scared Cynthia was going to need her inhaler again; I reminded her to breathe, so she was ok. This show was incredible beyond words and I recommend it to absolutely anyone visiting (or living in) Las Vegas. I seriously cannot wait to go back and see the show again. Thank you so much for such an unforgettable experience!!
