El Amor de Mis Amores

A few months ago, my world got flipped upside down when my dad (or daddy as I still call him), got massively sick out of nowhere. We actually lost him…twice. Somehow he came back to us and I am still beyond grateful to get to see him every day. You see, my dad and I have always had this amazing bond that few can imitate, but none can duplicate. When I was little, he would spend Sundays disco dancing with me in the living room. To this day, every time I hear “Funkytown” by Lipps Inc., I automatically think of him J. The tie between us was so insane, that when I was a baby, I would automatically get sick when he left on trips to Mexico, and would not get better until he came back. I even learned to crawl out of my crib just so he and I could hang out, which would baffle him. I inherited that adventurous, fearless streak from him, which he was (and sometimes still is!) both freaked out by and proud of.
My dad is the most amazing person I have ever had the luck to encounter. Because of him, I have a good head and a great heart and know how (and when) to use both. Seeing him work extremely hard gave me the relentless work ethic I now possess. Experiencing the type of kind-hearted man he is, has given me impeccable manners and a willingness to help my fellow man. His insatiable need to learn has made us knowledge-seekers (we can watch nerdy documentaries all day) and constant debaters. He always taught me to be proud of our cultures and our histories and made sure I could speak Spanish before I could speak anything else. He is a living, walking miracle and I know that everything I am is because of him and he is everything I hope to be.
