Los Tigres Del Norte and Their Censorship Battle

Beloved group, Los Tigres del Norte, were recently asked to perform three songs for the “Lunas del Auditorio”, an awards show in Mexico honoring the best live performances that took place in the Mexican territory throughout the year. Los Tigres were to perform three songs: “Jefe de Jefes”, “Mi Curiosidad” and were to close with “La Granja”. Even though the songs were previously approved by event coordinators, the group was asked not to perform “La Granja” due to its content and replace it with another song. This request was made a day before the ceremony, during dress rehearsals. Los Tigres took great offense to this because they viewed it as a form of censorship and disrespect. They then backed out of the awards show and held a small press conference explaining how they felt about the situation. I am so proud of Los Tigres del Norte for standing up for their work and refusing to be censored. They’ve worked so hard to give a voice to the Latinos and now they’re being asked to shut up by Latinos?! Talk about ironia!
