Dora Drama for your Momma

Many of us are familiar with cartoon celebrity Dora the Explorer, the little latina girl on Nickelodeon. Many preschoolers have come to fall in love with Dora and watch her show as she goes through a new adventure everyday. I will admit that I love the little Dora; she is smart, independent, and cultured. I have a niece named Brianna, and I have always thought she looked like Dora with her short brown hair, t-shirt and shorts: simple and adorable. I believe this image is great for many preschool girls, since she is a very realistic character.
Many parents have become alarmed with the new teen Dora that Mattel plans to launch out in Fall 2009. Some parents believe that this new Dora will take away from what the old Dora represents and be like the Bratz and Barbie dolls. On the other hand Mattel argues that the new Dora will bring an alternative to Barbie. Teen Dora will be about the age of ten, living in the city, and solving mysteries in similarity with Nancy Drew. In my opinion I think this is a great idea, because I have witnessed young girls go from playing house to having babies too soon. Sometimes with all the pressures to fit in and be cool, many girls lose their youth in wanting to be older quicker. Maybe something like teen Dora can entertain young girls and help them maintain youthfulness just a little longer.
