Wedding Cakes can cost a ton! What is a bride to do when her heart is dead set on a tiered cake with fondant and sugar flowers but cannot afford it? Many frugal brides are going with Styrofoam cake dummies. A Styrofoam cake dummy is Styrofoam covered in fondant and decorated just like a real cake. Most bakeries use this method for display purposes, but couples are selecting this choice. The entire cake doesn’t have to be made of Styrofoam. Some people will leave the top layer as a real cake, this way the couple can actually cut into the cake for a photo. It’s obvious you’re not going to serve your guests Styrofoam so often time’s people purchase regular sheet cakes.  Keep in mind you must cut the cake into slices rather than cubes and no one will know the difference.

A Latino custom is to save the cake and have a separate fiesta the next day where you serve cake and open presents. If you have a Styrofoam dummy the night before at the wedding just have all kinds of homemade desserts the next day at the pastelada. Also keep in mind this option is good for quinces as well!
