Angel & Michelle Penaloza Love Story

About a month ago I attended a family wedding. I was completely moved by the entire event. At that very moment I was reminded by all the time and effort put into it. The patience from the groom, the endurance from the bride, the overall love and support for this new union. As I sat there, it hit me I wanted to provide newlyweds and soon to be newlyweds with the opportunity to submit the play-by-play for all to bear witness. Each month we will focus on one couple and every week you’ll receive details leading up to the big day. I appreciate all of you who have contacted me and look forward to those who I will meet in the future. I invite you to meet the couple that inspired my “Wedding Love Story” feature.
Meet Angel & Michelle Penaloza
Sylmar, Ca
The Penaloza’s met through mutual friends in the year 2001 at the Ventura County Fair. The groom, Angel, is my uncle. I recall a visit from the two when my mom was going through chemo. I remember that the subject of marriage had come up and I knew that he was going to propose to her within the coming weeks. As I sat there listening to his future bride talk about how long they had been together and the idea of solidifying the relationship, all I could think of is how she just had no idea what was in store for her. I remember my uncle just grinning because he had already planned the entire proposal.
Picture this; it was a family vacation on July 15, 2007 that took place at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo, California (20-30mins away from San Francisco). It was at the Shark Aquarium. When they all walked in a staff member sat everyone down. As everyone was sitting down, a newscast member started to wire Angel up (installing a hidden microphone). Once everyone sat down, he asked Michele to stand up and stand next to the big glass. Inside the shark aquarium was two divers and at the bottom of the aquarium was a pirate treasure chest. When he asked Michele to look at the pirate treasure chest the divers opened the treasure chest and as they were opening it, he knelt down to one knee and as the treasure chest open a sign floated out with the message saying “Michele Will You Marry Me”? Ugh, that just makes my heart melt! Of course being that we are Latinos immediately everyone wants to party soon, but Angel and Michelle chose 2 years (an ideal engagement period). They wanted to have enough time to save for the wedding and pay everything up front without using credit cards and beginning their lives as husband and wife debt free!
Next Week Location Selection for their big day. Don’t Miss It!
