I look forward to the tamale festival and the fairs where I live to get a freshly made glass of horchata. Here’s a recipe you can try at home.
What you will need:
-
1 cup uncooked white long-grain rice
-
5 cups water
-
1/2 cup milk
-
1/2 tablespoon vanilla extract
-
1/2 tablespoon ground cinnamon
-
2/3 cup white sugar
-
-
Using a Blender Combine rice and water and blend for about 1 minute. Pour into a bowl and let it stand for 3 hours minimum.
-
Strain the rice water into a pitcher and discard the rice. Stir the milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and sugar into the rice water. Refrigerate to chill and serve.
-
*Quick Tip:
One way I like to make horchata is to add ice as needed and blend to make a Horchata Smoothie. Very tasty!
