I look forward to the tamale festival and the fairs where I live to get a freshly made glass of horchata. Here’s a recipe you can try at home.

What you will need:

  • 1 cup uncooked white long-grain rice
  • 5 cups water
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 2/3 cup white sugar
  •
    1. Using a Blender Combine rice and water and blend for about 1 minute. Pour into a bowl and let it stand for 3 hours minimum.
    1. Strain the rice water into a pitcher and discard the rice. Stir the milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and sugar into the rice water. Refrigerate to chill and serve.

*Quick Tip:

One way I like to make horchata is to add ice as needed and blend to make a Horchata Smoothie. Very tasty!
