Tired of hearing about the violence on the streets of Los Angeles? We hear it every night on the evening news. They are not the stories you want to hear before going to sleep. We hear about the young kids playing in yards gunned down by stray bullets or random drive-by shootings. Innocent people are being killed in their own neighborhoods.

Well, there is one man that drives right into the most dangerous, gang-infested cities. He is the well-known and respected University of Southern California football coach, Pete Carroll. He’s been called the Prince of L.A. Why? He took a team that was in a 20-year slump and made them champions. In seven years he has produced 3 Heisman trophy winners, 42 NFL players and 30 all-Americans. His vision, besides winning on the football field, is to STOP gang violence.

Pete Carroll started driving through the worst neighborhoods in 2006 meeting gang members. It’s here on the streets of L.A. where he talks to them about stopping the violence. Just like he coaches his football players to work as a team, he talks to gang members about living together without violence. He tells them to give the gift of saving a life, not taking one.

“Kids getting killed in the streets is just not okay, it’s not alright”, says Pete Carroll. With that said, he has brought together educators, Los Angeles Police Department, politicians, and former gang members to form the organization called “A Better L.A.” These are groups of people that have the same goal but worked separately, until now.

I can’t begin to write about all the wonderful things that A Better L.A. has already done for the city. It has motivated many young people to change and think in a different way and rejuvenated Law enforcement. To read more About A Better L.A, go to www.abetterla.com. Find out more about Pete Carroll: he’s the coach we all want in our life. Thanks, Pete, for your awesome motivation and coaching skills, and giving back to the community that loves you so much!
