Los Angeles Gets Ready to Relive the Glory Days of Rock en Espanol Movement
Cabula, Viva Malpache and Los Olvidados Unite to Bring the Fire Back

Los Angeles, CA --September 14, 2009 -- Three of the groups that gave birth to Los Angeles’s independent rock en espanol music scene during the 1990’s, Cabula, Viva Malpache and Los Olvidados, will come together on October 24th at Bordello Bar for a rare performance as they headline A&M’s “The Return of Rock and Roll: Remembering a History of Rock in Los Angeles”, a triple- header concert that pays tribute to this singular musical era.

Along with other important acts such as Pastilla and Maria Fatal, these three headlining bands marked an era in LA’s musical history that thrives mainly underground today. Thanks to their creative fusions of traditional Latin music with everything from ska (Los Olvidados) to pop/rock (Cabula) to punk and funk and everything in between (Viva Malpache), these bands during their heyday produced energetic live shows that were often described as “electrifying” and “contagious” by the likes of La Banda Elastica, Al Borde, and La Opinion, media who devotedly covered the musical movement.

Due to an assortment of new obligations, the groups have been on hiatus from performing major shows, but have a particular itch to get back on stage. “The musical experience is completely different when you’re on stage as opposed to being in the audience,” expressed Viva Malpache keyboardist Arturo Hernandez. “Perhaps it’s nostalgia, or maybe because so many indie bands nowadays come and go so fast, but I just don’t get the same sense anymore of that energy and the fire that we brought to all our performances. We want to bring the fire back.”

“The Return of Rock and Roll: Remembering a History of Rock in Los Angeles” looks to re-infuse the current independent music scene --which thrives primarily underground nowadays-- with some of the infectious energy and DIY mentality that defined the musical era of a decade ago, when Spanish rock exploded onto the scene.

The event will be held on October 24, 2009 at Bordello Bar, east of Downtown LA, starting at 9:00pm. Tickets for the event are on sale online at www.groovetickets.com and selected Ritmo Latino Music locations on and will be $8 pre-sale, and $10 at the door.
