Alright we all know we have been guilty of forgetting someone’s Birthday! If your family is as large as mine, or if you’re as busy as can be, its perfectly understandable. I have a simple solution to make sure you never get caught in a party rut again: a party survival kit. This kit can be kept in a linen closet, spare room, or wherever it is convenient for you. I have used a party gift bag or plastic storage bin to hold all items. You don’t have to go crazy spending a lot of money. All items can be purchased at a 99 cent store, big lots, or my personal favorite: the dollar spot at Target.
The first thing I do is go look at the clearance items. Most of the time you find holiday paper goods but sometimes they have closeouts on themed items. I might also like to suggest taking a calendar and going over upcoming birthdays. This will also help in determining what type of items will be needed. If your toddler’s birthday is around the corner you don’t want to waste your time buying Hannah Montana things when they are not needed. Here is list of things you might want to include in your kit:
- Tablecloth- Purchase solid colors in shades that are universal for male & female
- Napkins- use festive prints to coordinate with solids
- Cards – I always keep a box of all-occasion cards
- Candles- don’t buy specific numbers just regular ones in multicolored packs
- Candy- Pour candy into small bowls and place them around the room
- Bowls – They can be used for candy, chips, veggies, etc.
- Cups- I like to use plastic ones because the paper cups leak!
- Balloons- I keep a bag of colorful ones. I just blow them up myself and lay them out around the room, then take a Sharpie and write a b-day message on them
- Cutlery- Keep an assorted box of forks, spoons, and knives
10. Streamers- they are always fun and can make any room look like a party!
One last tip: recycle as many items as you can! Put them back into the bin and save them for the next one. Mother Earth and your future grandchildren will thank you.
