Fiesta Estilo Loteria

I am always amazed at how creative people can be if we explore the possibilities. One of my good friends recently celebrated her birthday and, in my opinion, had one the most ingenious party themes. The party was centered on the popular Mexican bingo game “loteria”. Guests were asked to choose their favorite card and somehow incorporate that into the attire for the night. I selected “La Rosa” because of the rose tattoo on my left shoulder. I also wore a red rose in my hair. When I arrived I was delighted to see that all the invitees really participated. I saw a girl wearing a Mexican flag dress (for “La Bandera”), a guy wearing a black shirt with the words “El Negrito” across it, and, of course, “El Borracho” was in full effect.
The decorations she chose paid homage to this pastime in every detail. The walls had oversized loteria cards and tissue flowers. The tables were covered in embroidered manteles. She baked cupcakes and frosted them in bright colors. She cut up the playing cards and used them to decorate the cupcakes. For her gift I took a bottle of Bacardi anejo and wrapped in teal colored tulle with “La Rosa” card as a tag (this way she would know exactly who it was from). I really can’t say enough about how innovative this was. I encourage everyone to try this idea. Your guests will love it and your party will be the one everyone is buzzing about. Miss Jackie did a phenomenal job and I can’t wait to see what she will do next year!
