Many major businesses and corporations did not prosper in 2008, causing them to fall under and file for bankruptcy. But one industry seemed to break through the economic crisis and came out with not only an increased profit but a booming in sales; any guesses? If you answered thrift stores and 99-cent stores, you are absolutely right. Recent studies showed companies such as Goodwill and the major 99-cent store made a nice profit compared to years past.

With the economy in the red, many consumers were forced to put a more watchful eye on their spending and made consumers hit up these thrifts stores more often than usual. If you stop by one of these stores, you may actually be surprised. Although it may look like a tornado ran through some of them, there may be some good finds in there. Surprisingly some major stores such as Target sell unwanted or returned merchandise to these thrifts stores and turn around and sell them back to consumers for dollars. Don’t knock it until you try it; you may never know what you may find until you actually go and look. On a side note, don’t be ashamed if you’re shopping at these stores. Your friends aren’t paying your bills, and who knows? Your friends may not even make their next electricity bill!
