So, it’s that time of year again: Time for all the Halloween candy, time to get your kids’ costumes out of the closet and time to go green!

Yes, this is the best time of the year to start going green, or to continue, because it is so easy!  To make this an eek-o-friendly holiday, follow these simple suggestions as listed on www.greenhalloween.com :

    1. Reuse, borrow, trade or buy used costumes and decorations. You know you can find a good costume by digging in your tío’s closet.

          2. Use the candy wrappers to make pretty frames, purses or bracelets.

    3. For the Halloween fiesta, bring out the reusable dishes, utensils, tablecloths and napkins.

    4. Use a bag you already own, like a lunchbox, backpack, flower pot, cloth sack or a purse to carry your sweet loot.

    5. Compost your pumpkins and any other foods, including leftover candy.

    6. Walk from house to house instead of driving.

    7. If you really want to buy your child’s costume, why not order it from a company that offsets its energy usage with renewable energy and prints their costume inserts on recycled paper?  For example, costumes by Tom Arma.  The best part of it is the costumes are very well made and will survive many a hollow’s eve.

See how simple it is to go green this Halloween; and no, I don’t mean dressing up as The Incredible Hulk!  Have fun and remember to be safe.
