What inspired you to become a photographer?
Since I was a child, cameras have always been of interest to me, but I wasn’t able to own one, until I was 20. I bought my first digital pocket camera for my birthday, and loved it from the beginning! A few months later, I took a film and photography course, and my teacher was the one who discovered I really had talent. He was the one who actually inspired me to continue with photography; however, I never thought I would ever do it professionally. After a couple of years of doing commissioned photo shoots, and now that I have discovered what the world of photography really is like, all those big and important photographers inspire me day by day to accomplish a little of what they have done.
What get’s you out of bed, to do what you love?
Every new photo shoot is exciting for me. From doing baby photography to doing music bands’ photo shoots. Every photo session is like a new and different project. I always tend to prepare my gear a day before the shoot (charge batteries, clean lenses, prepare flash cards etc.). Also, it is very important for me to get a good night’s sleep to wake up energized enough to start my new adventure.
What’s your favorite thing about your business/ job?
I love meeting new people and discovering new locations to take pictures. I also love the time I spend behind the computer while editing my pictures. But most importantly, I LOVE being my own boss!
What bumps in the road did you have to overcome to be where you are now?
There are people who will always try to keep you down when trying to pursue your dreams. Family members or your "disque amigos" who will tell you that what you are doing will never get you anywhere, and to be "realistic". It’s hard, but the only thing that will make you overcome their opinions is yourself. If you believe in yourself and have honest faith in what you are doing, nothing will ever stop you! Because in the end, all that you will ever have is yourself, and if you don’t fight for yourself, no one will!
Word of advice for any Latina following her dreams:
Take advantage of every opportunity you are given, and always give your best. Never let yourself down by others, and always maintain strong with your dreams!
Where did you learn your trade?
In Zacatecas, Mexico and here in Los Angeles.
