Don’t Forget To Apply Sun Block!

We all know how important it is to apply sun block in order to prevent sun burns, premature aging and skin cancer. Yet, we always seem to forget the small details that can cause major health problems in the long run.

Not too long ago, I was at a girlfriend’s pool party and made sure I applied and reapplied my sun block every two hours. Six hours and three margaritas later, I was happy to say that I did not get sunburned…or so I thought, until I went home and looked at my scalp. I had my hair parted that day into two braids, which left my scalp pink and tender by the end of the day. I learned my lesson, and listen to my advice girls: pink scalps are neither attractive nor comfortable. Remember to use sun block lotion or spray on your scalp as well, because it WILL burn. Here are some other body parts that are not to be forgotten next time you slather on the sun block:

  • Ears

  • Feet

  • Hands

  • Scalp

  • Neck

  • Arms, especially your left side (driver’s side)

  • Armpits, if you like to lounge in the sun with your hands behind your head

  • Lips

From now on, ladies, make a mental note NOT to forget to apply sun block on these often overlooked parts of the body. Believe it or not, these parts can also burn and develop into skin cancer.
