Save the Earth Celebrity Auction

The Stars like to come together and give a power punch to events that usually help a good cause. Of course, they are at it again. Earth Day will be celebrating its 40th anniversary this April 22, 2010. Christie’s, NBC Universal, Barneys New York and Charitybuzz are putting together a campaign called “A Bid to Save the Earth” which will be tied to the 40th anniversary celebration. There will be a live auction at Christie's, complete with A-list attendees and "green carpet" on April 22nd and for those of us that can’t attend, there will be a companion online silent auction at www.charitybuzz.com from April 8 – May 6. Christie’s is waiving all fees and commissions for the auction. Some of the stars joining are Chevy Chase, Leonardo DiCaprio, Harrison Ford, Tobey Maguire, Salma Hayek, Candice Bergen, Ed Norton, Evelyn Lauder, Alec Baldwin, Zaha Hadid, Sam Waterston, Natalie Portman, Matt Lauer, Brooke Shields, Sigourney Weaver, Cameron Diaz, Ted Danson, Kyra Sedgwick, James Taylor and Michael Stipe. This huge initiative will raise funds for four environmental not-for-profit organizations — Oceana, Natural Resources Defense Council, Conservation International, and Central Park Conservancy. Some of the items to be auctioned include: David Duchovny is auctioning the chance to have lunch with him on the set of Californication. Hugh Jackman is auctioning off the chance to spend the day on the set of Reel Steel with him this summer. Candice Bergen is auctioning off the chance to stroll with her through Central Park and then have lunch at the Boathouse. Vera Wang is auctioning the chance to have lunch with her at The Mercer Kitchen, followed by a $10,000 shopping spree at the Vera Wang boutique. Cameron Diaz is donating two tickets and after-party passes to the Green Hornet Premiere. The Green Auction mission is to renovate interest in the environment, as well as raise millions for the environmental organizations and this could not be done without the help of the celebrity and philanthropic supporters.
