No Courtesy Flush

Allow me to try to change a behavior you’ve had since you were little… did your Mom or Dad ever say, “Quién no le bajo al baño? Cochinos!” Well, you can now forget what they taught you! It is NOT eco-friendly to flush the toilet every time you use it. So forget about those courtesy flushes during those *ahem* stinky moments.
Did you know that every time you flush, you use about 1.6 gallons per flush (GPF). Before the National Energy Policy Act established in 1995, there was nothing to regulate the GPF toilets used. At one time, it was as high as seven GPF! Think about it an average family of three flushes about 6 times a day that is about 9.60 gallons of water a day! ¡Hijoé!
Of course, like anything, there are super toilets that will save even more water every time you flush. There are even some toilets that will allow you to choose between a “big” flush and a “little” flush.
I knew water was used in those darn contraptions, but I never knew how much water so I was very curious to find out. I think 1.6 gallons is a lot of water. Of course, this type of conservation is drastic so you can chose to still be courteous and practice your flushing techniques when you have company. Oh and of course, if you happen to go #2… yeah, let’s not even go there!
I am going to teach my boys to be more eco-friendly in the bathroom, besides turning off the water while they brush, now I won’t be upset when they forget to flush! Ha, I think my kids are going to think aliens swapped their mom!
