For this week’s Get Out There Section I will be highlighting the beautiful city of Santa Barbara, California.  I found a great list of 101 free things you can do there. Yes, GRATIS!  Santa Barbara is only 92 miles north of Los Angeles and 332 miles south of San Francisco, so it is relatively close by AND did I mention there are 101 free things to do there!

Okay, so I won’t list all 101 ideas.  I will narrow it down to 10 (mis favoritos, of course):

    1. Join a drum circle on the beach; West and East Beaches on Saturday and Sundays.
    2. Walk along Coast Village Road, an elegant shopping area in Montecito.
    3. Enjoy free movies in English and Spanish on weekend summer nights at the park in Isla Vista.
    4. Get up close and personal with ostrich and emus at Ostrich Land in Buellton.
    5. Enrich your mind with a free lecture in the Mind/Supermind series presented by Santa Barbara City College.
    6. See the panoramic view from the 85-foot tower of the Santa Barbara County Courthouse.
    7. Enjoy handmade arts and crafts at the Arts & Craft Show along beach front Cabrillo Boulevard on Sundays.
    8. Visit the historical Painted Caves of the Chumash Indians.
    9. See a re-creation of a pygmy mammoth skeleton, artifacts of the Chumash Indians and more at the Museum of Natural History.
    10. Delight your senses with the beauty of lavender at Clairmont Lavender Farm during June and July.

 

    It is a great place to stimulate all of your senses and mind, body and spirit. Not to mention there are beautiful beaches and the historic Santa Barbara Mission.
