Kids In Vegas

I just recently went to Vegas for New Year’s Day, along with the entire western hemisphere! Anyway, I had a blast (as always). But, I did do something different this time. I took all my kids, my sister took her kids and even our parents went. We had a great family time in Vegas!
I decided to share some of the great things we found that you can do with your kids in Vegas.
Luxor and Excalibur are great. Not only can you take the tram to these casinos from the Mandalay Bay so you can avoid the heavy traffic of the strip, but there are pedestrian bridges taking you to the New York, New York and to the MGM casinos. On the bottom floor of the Excalibur there is a fair style area, complete with balloon popping and fish catching booths. There are also two motion simulator rides. My kids (ages 4, 6 and 8) loved it. They joined Sponge Bob as he tried to find his pickle and then they enjoyed a magical ride on the Polar Express ride. The Luxor has the BEST Imax Theater you will ever find and they SEGA arcade is awesome to forget about your teenagers for a while.
A few places have roller coasters for the bigger kids, of course the New York, New York Casino has the Manhattan Express roller coaster which gives you a ride outside of the casino building and a great view of the strip below. Then there is the Big Shot, the ride on top of the Stratosphere Tower. I’m afraid of heights and I am breaking into a sweat just thinking about it. So that is enough about that. The Circus Circus Casino also has a roller coaster inside the Adventuredome, the amusement park enclosed in a giant pink dome.
Animals are always fun and kids love them. You will find tigers at The Mirage and a great lion habitat at the MGM, the best though is the Shark Reef at the Mandalay Bay. There is a fee for this, but it is worth the price, kids 4 and under get in free.
Most casinos are now understanding that kids are a big deal and most people enjoy traveling with them. For this, they have provided many free shows. Treasure Island has their Buccaneer Bay Pirate Battle at the front during the evenings, the show is great. Complete with explosions, fire, very loud noises, and acrobatics. The Rio puts on a parade suspended from the ceiling above the casino floor, the walls open up and floats come out suspended from the ceiling. For $9.95, anyone over 42" tall can buy a ticket and ride on one of the floats, definitely NOT my kind of fun.
Next time you plan a trip to Vegas, take your kids or borrow someone’s kids. You’ll have a blast!
