Island Hopping

When you think of islands, most of us think of a deserted place with clear blue water, white sandy beaches and really tall palm trees.  But not all islands look like that.

Take our local Southern California Island, Catalina Island.  It does have the natural, unique beauty of an island, but it is far from being deserted.   Catalina has so much to offer; there is not enough time in one day to take it all in, but if you plan it right, you can hop right over and see and do a lot.   It is also an ideal location for an overnight getaway with your amorsito.

Even though the island is only 22 miles away from the California coastline, it actually feels as if it were another country, another planet!    You can go early in the morning and return in the evening.  You will feel as if you stepped away in time.  I still can’t believe there is not one single traffic light in the entire island.  Cuidado!  It might be because most Angelinos are NOT driving there! Ha ha ha!

If I close my eyes and remember my trip to the Island when I was a kid.  I can still smell the salty air and the fresh mist that rose from the sea as we traveled to the island.  I can also remember getting on a bus to take a tour that took us up a mountain along a narrow, steep road.  I couldn’t believe how we didn’t fall off the side!  The bus must have been on air at its ends when we turned on those sharp curves.  Aye, Dios mio!  But, I have to admit, it was exhilarating.

Grab your shorts, sunglasses and your hat and hop over to our friendly neighborhood island.  Have fun!
