Carribean Dream Trip

My cousin and her newly acquired husband, recently spent two weeks in the Caribbean Islands, specifically St. Barts and St. Maarten.  I enjoyed her pictures and accounts from the islands so much that I decided to share details about the islands with you. They had the chance to spend a week in each location.

Let’s meet St. Barts: This unique island is special in that all of the beaches are undeveloped.  It is one small city surrounded by twenty-two, YES, 22 beaches.  All of the hotels and villas are off the beaches and because of the mountainous terrain; most of them are in the hills, offering spectacular views.

Even though there are five-star hotels, the best way to travel in St. Barts is to rent a private villa.  The villas make up about 70% of the available rooms.  There are several travel agencies in St. Barts that specialize in making your trip a unique one.  They arrange to have your villa ready for your arrival.

The city itself is so small that there are no public forms of transportation.  So renting a car is a must.  No matter where you stay, everything is only a 15-minute car drive away.  However, because the island offers so many places to explore, getting around will be very important.

Then, after a short 10-minute flight, you will arrive at St. Maarten:  On this island, you can enjoy three distinct cultures.  There's the delightfulness of the Dutch on one side, the diplomacy of the French on the other, and the blending of both with the traditional local flair.

Imagine standing on the balcony of your room and seeing France and Denmark right outside of your window.  And yes, my cousin made us jealous, by sending us detailed information about the delicious French and Danish food she ate.  She had a great time shopping, duty-free!

So I have to add this trip to my bucket list.  Walk along a French and Danish beach in one afternoon. Oh, to dream...
