My E3 Adventure

I am trying my best to write this without sounding like a kid who had too much
sugar, but if you were at E3 you would feel the excitement I felt. I spent my day in the
Xbox room, primarily playing with the Kinect. One year ago I attended the media
release of “Project Natal” which is the completely wireless system that works with the
regular XBox360. Microsoft has now given it the official name of the KINECT. I tested
out a few Kinect games, one of my favorite one was the Tai Chi game where an instructor
teaches you moves and you follow them exactly. The Kinect has the ability to scan your
body positions and display them on the screen to make sure you are following the exact
movements. I also tested out some of the dance games, a raft game, and one of my
personal top pick games is one where you kick and punch boxes (got that aggression out!).
What makes the Kinect and the games so unique? Completely wire FREE! No
pesky batteries needed, no need to sync controls, just use what your mama gave you.
At one point I was playing a rafting game and the girl next to me wanted to join, and
all she had to do was jump in front of the screen, it was that easy. Not to put down the
Wii, because I love the Wii console, but dealing with the pesky controller issues was
always a hassle when I played with primos. There always seemed to be one or two Wii
controls that were low on charge and we didn’t have batteries. My parents could never
really figure out how to work the controllers and the nunchuck, but with a wireless
system, who doesn’t know how to work their body. Even navigating through the system
felt magical, with the swipe of a hand I was able to scroll through menus and select, I
felt like Tom Cruise in Minority Report. I was even a little skeptical at first because the
system is so new, I figured there would motion and lag and kinks, but I can honestly say
I didn’t experience any of that while testing out the games. The Kinect is scheduled to
be released November 4th, no say on what the price will be, but I’ll keep you all posted.
