The Chaiken and Capone Show

A few days ago, I was invited to attend the Spring 2012 Fashion Preview for Chaiken and Capone, one of my favorite brands. The reason I’ve always had a soft spot for them is simple: curves. Their pants have a particular type of signature cut: “the curve”. They were innovative enough to focus on the fact that all women (no matter what shape or size) have a curve stemming from the waist down. They’ve always made sure to include a curvature in the pants, allowing hips to showcase themselves and make women appear well, womanly! Even in looking through their workbooks, you could see super skinny models look nice and curvy thanks to their signature cut.
Although I had a chance to see quite a varied collection of pieces, there were definitely a few that really stood out for me. Their St. Tropez April dress is ridiculous! It’s made out of polyester (but feels like silk! No, really!!), has delicate draping and comes in a deep salmon that will showcase your tan like nothing else. It also comes in a dusty, cobalt blue, but I love playing up my natural Latina tan, so the salmon would definitely be my first choice. Everything about the dress makes it the official go-to. The way its cut makes it go from work to dinner, to your prima’s wedding. I, personally, can’t wait to get it and rock it with everything. Just looking at it made me pick out at least 6 different looks in my head. (It could have been my ADD kicking it, but still).
Another great staple I saw were their shorts. I particularly don’t wear shorts just because of the way I’m built (I basically look like I belong in a rap video any time I’m wearing them), but these guys might make me reconsider. Chaiken and Capone has some adorable tap shorts that come in preppy stripes; they are high-waisted and have small notches cut out in the waistband giving them an unexpected twist. The reason I love them so much is that they look very pin-up girl and would make you want to paint on some ruby lips and slide on some really tall heels. If that’s not a reason to love shorts, then I don’t know what is!
I wish I could tell you about every single piece I saw, but out of respect for the designer, I’m going to keep some things under wraps. Therefore, will be patiently waiting (along with you), to see what else is coming to the stores. Trust me when I say, it’s definitely going to be worth it!
