Green Aint Just an Eye Shadow Color

Here at Soy Fashionista, we’re so concerned with the environment, we felt it was imperative to include a whole section on being “green”. It seems that everywhere you look estos dias, more and more people and companies are putting forth an effort to be environmentally friendly. MAC cosmetics have always been concerned about the environment, offering an appealing trade-in system. For every six empty containers of their make-up products, you get an eye shadow, lip gloss, or lipstick for free. Si, gratis. You know you LOVE MAC and run through their make-up like it’s your job. Next time you’re ready to toss your empty Studio-FIX compact, put it away until you gather a few more empty containers. Hey, with the lovely recession we have going on, doesn’t free make-up sound sabroso?!
Another great company that has always kept un ojo on the environment is Aveda. Aveda™, The Art and Science of Pure Flower and Plant Essences™, is currently celebrating their 20th anniversary of offering “high-performance, botanically based products”. Their products are plant-based and are packaged in “minimized packaging” composed of post-consumer recycled materials.
They even paired up with the Yawanawa people, (a group residing deep in the Amazon), to grown the urukum shrub. The seeds derived from the shrub organically provide natural colors for lips, eyes and face, giving “natural beauty” a whole new meaning. Partners since 1993, the company has helped the Yawanawa people in their search for economic sustainability; the cultivation of the plant also helps encourage and develop an important rain-forest ecosystem. Impresionante, no?
Aveda definitely practice what they preach and encourage/challenge packaging partners to do the same. As for my recommendation? Aveda’s Brilliant Emollient Gloss is simply that…brilliant. It contains rice bran oil and vitamin E, leaving your hair (especially moisture-needing ends) soft with high-gloss shine. One pump will go a long way, so the bottle will last you muchisimo tiempo (plus, having that beautiful bottle in your bathroom will make you feel like a lil’ fancy-pants!).
