Por Que Eres MUJER MIJA!!!

As mi papa’s only daughter, that’s what I’ve heard all my life. At first (pre-teenage years), I thought I’d been cursed; my life is ruined and they (my parents) are really just trying to ruin my life! What about in high school? What about taking the car? I never understood why my brother had waaaay more freedom than I did at his age. I was older, I had good grades, I was good! Why couldn’t I do what I wanted? The answer? “Es diferente! Tu eres mujer!”
My dad has 6 sisters, they all stayed in and helped clean, cook and raise the younger siblings. To him, that was socially correct. Sports? After school activities? Parties? Unheard of! Amigas that have parents that came from similar backgrounds have shared and agreed with me. it’s a hard mold to break, but let’s not give up ladies! I’m sure we will always be papi’s or mami’s bebita in their eyes, but I continue to fight to prove and demonstrate to them that they raised no fool: I’m smart, savvy, and very much capable of making my own decisions, and I know that so are all of you. So try to understand them, by talking to them, LISTENING to what they have to say, and then having them listen to your side. More importantly, respect them, and show them how wonderful of a woman their little girl has become.
