Getting invited to Latina magazine’s 15-year anniversary party was a dream come true. I have been a faithful subscriber for years after I picked up my first issue a few years ago at Target. I remember leafing through the issue and being really overcome with joy to see that they not only featured some of my favorite authors in the issue, but they also had the drop-dead gorgeous Eva Longoria on the cover. I will never forget one of the things she said: “I love having dark hair and dark eyes”. This always resonated with me because you never really hear a statement like that. Blonde hair and blue eyes have always been considered the more “valuable” features, so to have a stunner state that she loves being Latina and all that comes with it, really encouraged me embrace my own dark hair and dark eyes. That small moment helped me change my whole perception, which, in turn, made me a loyal subscriber. Therefore, getting to be a part of their Quinceañera celebration was truly an honor!

Walking down the Latina’s magazine’s red carpet at the Globe Theatre in Los Angeles was only a small introduction to the magic that was waiting inside for us. The whole room was decked out in white chaise lounges, awesome lighting and a huge cake emblazoned with Latina magazine’s latest magazine cover, featuring the “15 Latinas we Love”.

There was a lot of thought put into the celebration, all the way down to the Latin infused food (mini rock-shrimp ceviche tostadas, mini flan and chorizo macaroni and cheese were just some of the yummy treats offered). After eating, I definitely knew I needed my make-up touched up, so I walked on over to the Covergirl make-up lounge and had a few touch ups done by the super-friendly Artemis. She refused to touch my lipstick because she loved it so much and was stoked when I told her it was “Valentine Red” by Covergirl. She focused on other features instead and made my eyes pop like nobody’s business as she added a little shadow to emphasize their slantiness. Jose Resendez, one of the head digital public relations personnel for Covergirl, made all of us feel extremely welcome and like the true cover girls we are! ;)

As everyone mingled (including the drop-dead gorgeous Sara Ramirez, Latino 96.3’s Raq-C, and JR Martinez to name a few ), Kat De Luna suddenly took the stage and got everyone hyped up with her top hits and her energetic set. Talk about a Quinceañera for the record books! I still can’t believe I got to be a part of something so meaningful and special. ! Feliz Quince Anos, Latina, y que sigan otros quince anos más!
