At a job interview, first impressions are everything. It is your only opportunity to present your fabulous self to an employer. But what does a good first impression look like? As I continue my Job Interview series, I will give you advice on what to wear and NOT wear to a job interview. It does not matter how big or small the job is. You still want to put your best foot forward and stand out from the slackers who wore jeans and a t-shirt to their interview!

      What to Wear:

  • Colors: Black, gray, brown, white, beige, etc. Choose the simplest color (even navy blue).
  • Materials: Cotton, wool, some rayon/poly mixes.
  • Stick to your blazer and slacks.
  • Low heels.
  • Simple prints.
  • When in doubt, “Simplest is best”.

      What Not to Wear:

  • Avoid sequins and ornaments.
  • Open-toe shoes, sandals, or slippers.
  • High heels.
  • Avoid big prints (i.e.: flowers, leopard or zebra).
  • High slits on a skirt are a big no-no!
  • Bright colors like reds, purples and yellows.
  • Avoid big jewelry. This includes hoop earrings and anything that screams attention.
