Beauty Work Etiquette

It’s after 2:00pm and your hair is on the flat side or it’s almost 6:00pm and you’re ready to head out for Happy Hour, (but not without a couple touch ups of course). Is it ok to primp during work hours? Unless you work for MAC, the answer is no, so put down that hairspray! Your boss is not paying you to get pretty for the guy in accounting. Maybe in high school, your hip supervisor let you get away with painting your nails when business was slow, but in the adult professional world, you want to present yourself as focused and composed. But I’m no hypocrite either. I know throughout the day we want to make sure our ponytail is still neat, that we don’t have spinach in our teeth and our eye shadow is still rockin.

Here are a few tips for beauty etiquette to use at work:

- If you must use hairspray or any kind of hair product, do it in the ladies room.

- Perfumes and lotions with a strong scent should be avoided until after work.

- Never clip, file, or paint your nails anywhere in the office.

- Wiping off excess oil or retouching your foundation should also be done in the ladies room.

- Don’t leave your make up bag in all of its glory spilled out on your desk.

- Curling or straightening your hair, please wait until after hours.

- Do keep a small compact mirror with you to check for food in your teeth.

- Any kind of pantyhose, bra, or thong adjustment should be taken care of in the ladies room.
