Verizon’s “My Fabulous Fifteen” Contest & Peewee the Pop Star

After winning Verizon’s “My Fabulous Fifteen” contest Briana had a Quince for the books and we at Soy Fashionista were lucky enough to be there to celebrate with her! Briana and her family were so sweet and I felt privileged to witness her special day and her amazing party. Christie covered all the specifics on the beautiful quinceñera, the party favors and decorations, so check out her Fiesta section to read all the details.
I was so excited when I found out she was also going to have a special performance by pop artist Pee Wee. As I walked into the room where Pee Wee, and other media was, I was nervous and really didn’t know what to expect from the pop star. He was being interviewed in Spanish and was laughing and joking with a camera crew. His laid back passive tone eased my nerves. As I walked up to say hi and introduce myself, Pee Wee did what we Latinos all do, he greeted me, dando me la mano, and a kiss on the cheek. He was so nice, and seemed so genuine when he told me he was excited to be there for Briana. “I‘ve never done anything like this” he said to me, “but my family would always make me sing when someone in my family was having a party” Explaining how his family parties were and how their number one request was always, Ramon Ayala’s Tragos Amargos. I laughed and agreed, that song is definitely a must-play at any fiesta con los tíos y tías.
Being fascinated by more than one genre of music myself, I had to ask what music did he listen to growing up, who were some of his influences growing up, and what type of music does he listen to now. Typical question, right? I had to know! Pee Wee told me he got the best of both worlds, and as he grew up with the mariachi and the cumbias and rancheras from the fiestas, he also has a sister who listened to Boys II Men, and various R&B and oldies artists. His influences and taste in music varied and his answer was music to my ears, because I, like him, feel we Latinos have the best of both worlds when it comes to so many things, but music being one of the huge ones. Pee Wee was so sweet and as he humbly kept saying he was excited to be able to be a part of Briana’s special day, he said he had a special show in store for her and her guests; and he wasn’t lying!
As he performed on a stage in the ballroom, everyone was dancing and singing along. He sang a medley like song with Mi Dulce Niña and Sabes a Chocolate. He also sang his new single, Cumbaya from his album titled “Yo Soy”.
It was a beautiful night, an awesome performance by Pee Wee, and a memorable experience because he was such a pleasure to interview, and his music even more fun to dance! Check out pictures he posted on his site of Briana’s 15 here, and go get his CD!
