If you have children between the ages of 2-6, then this project is just for you! I was taking an afternoon walk and came across a moving box with a sign that said “FREE PLEASE TAKE ME”. FREE? If you know me than you know I never pass up “FREE”. So I walked up to it and as I got closer I realized it was not just any box but a wardrobe box with a metal bar. OOHHH, I felt the wheels cranking n my head. All of a sudden it came to me I knew exactly what I would be doing with this “FREE” box. A Puppet Theatre! You can imagine the sight of me walking down my neighborhood dragging a four foot box. I’m only four eleven but the thought of how brilliant this discovery was motivated my conquest. When I got home I examined the “theatre” and carefully thought about its conversion process. This was no longer a six-sided box made up of paper .This would be the home to many puppets made out of socks, brown paper bags, sticks, and toilet paper rolls. The possibilities were (and still are) endless. This is a wonderful activity to get everyone in the house involved. Not only can you make the theatre but the puppets as well. Toddlers love to engage in imagination driven activities and, let’s face it, adults do too! Without a moment more to waste, let’s begin.
Moving Box/ Puppet Theatre Box
You’ll Need
- Wardrobe Moving Box
- Box Cutter
- Paint
- Material for Curtain
- Masking tape
- Glue Gun
Directions
- Cut one backside of the box to make it easy for your child or you to sit behind it. Leave 2 inches at the top and 2 inches at the bottom. This will keep the box from falling over.
- At the front of the box cut out square 14x24. This opening will set the stage
- Paint the box however you choose. You can paint it one solid color or paint faux rocks so it looks like a castle. It all depends on what you want to do.
- Cut a square 20 x 20 and fold over four inches from the top and wrap around the metal bar secure the material with duck tape. There you go, instant curtain!
- Lastly, add other pieces (like a sign above it or a list of show times.)Be Creative!.
