“Diaper Cakes” are the latest craze in Baby Showers. These “cakes” can be used as gifts, favors, or centerpieces. They can be one through four tiers high. You can glue flowers, charms, ribbons and/or wrap them with baby blankets. Diaper Cakes usually run anywhere from $80 to $340 per cake. They are so easy to make and for the half the cost!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 1 pack of 48 diapers
- 2 ½ yards of tulle
- 2 yards of ribbon
- Embellishments or ribbons
- Floral Straight pins
- 12-in round cake cardboard
- Count out 24 diapers for the bottom tier. Take 1 diaper, roll it up, and begin overlapping the diapers, leaving half inch exposed and starting to curve, forming a circle.
- Cut 1 yard of tulle in half (*most tulle is sold in 60 inches)
- Using 1 yard by 30 inch wide tulle. Gather it together and tie a bow in front of the Cake.
- Use 1 yard of the ribbon you choose and wrap around the cake on top of the tulle.
- Repeat steps 1-4 for the top tier only using 18 diapers.
- Once you have completed both tiers lay one on top the other.
- Top the cake with flowers or other accents.
- Glue the bottom layer on the Cake cupboard.
